New York Giants First Round Draft Preview

HOOLLLLYYY CRAPPPPP. Good thing this team has possibly the worst defense in the league when it comes to stopping teams in the last 2 minutes of a game. They almost destroyed there sweet 6th overall pick. Problem is they have so many holes to fill, where do they go from here. Herbert was the guy they were apparently high on but with his recent announcement of his return to school that will no longer be an option. Let’s dive in to other possibilities of where they might go, or where they should go.

Top options with the 6th pick of the draft:

A lot of eyes will be on the Ohio State Quarterback Dwayne Haskins. It will first off depend on if Oakland or Tampa give up on there own Quarterbacks and look for a change. I do not think that Carr or Winston are anything special, especially as of late, but I also don’t think this would be an improvement for them, definitely not right away. Same might be the case for the Giants but as I said last week, a mentoring situation behind Eli could work with him. He is the highest rated QB this year so if you are going to take him I would assume now would be the time. I just am really not sold on him. Too many questions for me. He does not come off as a can’t miss big name QB.

They need defense in the worst way. A new defensive lineman would be nice. Bosa the rumored number 1 pick and it being entirely likely that the first 4 of 5 picks are on the defensive side of the ball I don’t think that they can go there with this pick either.

Trade the pick:

If you think Haskins is the guy, take him, if you don’t, I start calling everyone seeing what they will give you for this pick. Jags are right behind them, they clearly are looking for a QB, trade down a pick and see what you get. Maybe the Broncos, Miami, hell even division rival Washington may call. I know it’s not basketball and you may call me a homer, but I believe Daniel Jones out of Duke has a lot of upside and that is a potential mentorship I’m willing to trade down for, for the right return.

Other guys to look at in a trade situation could be DeAndre Baker CB from the Dawgs in Georgia. Between him and Greedy Williams from LSU they are the best two corners in the draft and as evidence of pretty much every game this year, they need a Cornerback. The draft is stacked with defensive an offensive linemen, so you can go after a majority of them deeper in the first round. Just PRAY that they don’t have another Erick Flowers tragedy again. Todd Gurley anyone?

The Giants should have a defensive heavy draft, with an offensive lineman or two. I think the more logical move is trade the pick. Unless you are blown away and see this guys as the answer for the next 15 years. I haven’t seen him do anything that says that’s the case in his mere 14 game career. There will be a million mock drafts out between now and then. Already they have Haskins coming to New York. Let’s see what the combine and workouts bring.

Happy offseason!!
