What to think of Cam Akers?

I’m glad you are here for this soon to be vent session. I got a lot on my mind but the top football related news is a running back situation that’s not getting much love. Mr. Cam Akers is getting absolutely no love from the fantasy football world and I am having a hard time comprehending it.

When the Los Angeles Rams decided to use there first pick in the 2020 draft on the former Seminole, my first thought was Akers landed in one of the best situations for himself. His current “competition” is Darrell Henderson who was an absolute dud last year and Malcolm Brown who has already established himself nothing more then a backup. The pathway to lead back duties is there for Akers and not just because of the lame ass competition around him.

Cams collegiate career was extremely impressive. He is one of only 3 running backs to have multiple 1000 yard rushing seasons at FSU. He did this behind a horrific offensive line. If his line was just mediocre we could be talking about Akers as one of the top running backs being taken off the draft board. He showed great burst threw the limited holes he got but his most impressive attribute is his vision. Opposing defenses constantly disrupted Florida States line but Cams footwork and insane cutting abilities often time alluded them. He also is a factor in the passing game which should scare teams, although he has work to do in the pass protection.

One of the biggest factors of my love of Akers on the Rams is his coach. Sean McVays offensive scheme and also his IQ makes the home a great match. He runs for the most a zone blocking scheme which Akers should

benefit from. At the same time McVay is one of the few guys who will alter his playbook to his players strengths. This will certainly be true with Akers considering we found out about McVays man crush on his current stud back. “He was an unbelievable quarterback in high school. He had some good trick plays so we’ll have to add to the inventory and see if he can throw it a little bit still,” McVay said. This mfer is already talking about trick plays for the back. Sign me up for all that extra shit.

What baffles my mind the most is Akers ADP. I know he has not proven anything in the NFL yet and I might be over my head but an ADP of around 30 in PPR for RBs is uncalled for. This guy has everything in his favor to be the lead back in a good offense and I see guys like James White, Kareem Hunt and Derrius Guice ahead of him. WTF is going on here?

If you are reading this your welcome for the heads up on Akers. As of now I’m loving his ADP and will certainly be buying in if it remains the same come draft season. Something tells me things will change when the time comes but let’s keep our fingers crossed.
