GCF’s Burning Questions: Training Camp Edition

As we enter training camp season throughout the NFL the real Fantasy Football work begins. During this time we start to see a full picture of how rosters are going to shake out and who the risers and fallers in the Fantasy Football world will be. I am about to list the most burning question that we have entering training camp season and the answers hold the keys to your Fantasy Football championship run success!

Who will win the starting job in New Orleans?

Taysom Hill vs Jameis Winston. This is by far the most intriguing question I have so far this training camp season: Who will be the heir apparent to Drew Brees. If you’re a Fantasy Football player you know that you are rooting for the one, the only Jameis Winston. The man has the arm of Brett Favre but the decision making skills of Bob Manfred every time he tries to “fix” baseball. The former Heisman Trophy winner had a season for the ages in 2019 when he set records with his 30 touchdown and 30 interception season. (Here is the part where I would link some Jameis highlights, but the NFL has blocked any of their content from being used outside of their youtube channel. Sad!)

Jameis would be the best move for Fantasy Owners of Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas hands down. His arm is arguably elite and he will feed them as much as possible. Michael Thomas would be in line for a huge Fantasy value boost if Jameis takes the helm, but Alvin Kamara’s elite Fantasy Football status hangs in the balance with this decision. You see, Taysom Hill is a favorite of coach Sean Payton who I have always said on our Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/grand-central-fantasy/id1504785508) hates Alvin Kamara and wants the worst for him. The threat of Taysom Hill taking over is the fact that his arm is weak and he is genuinely a run first option. One can only hope that rational thought wins the day and we see Jameis take his rightful spot behind center starting Week 1.

What the hell is going on with Aaron Rodgers?

You, me, your mother, your cousin, your barber, your mailman, and his wife have all covered this issue to death at this point. Rodgers wants out, but where? As training camp progresses he will be fined potentially into the millions. That being said, we feel Rodgers is definitely playing this year, but where? My money is on Denver and I have been on this train for a while. So, now it is a hurry up and wait game, but we finally will get an answer to the question of where Rodgers will play. I have him in my Top 5 quarterbacks for the Fantasy Football season and I encourage you not to sleep on him.

What can we realistically expect from Saquon Barkley?

Barkley’s injuries have been well documented, but he is still on the top of draft boards throughout the industry. And for the life of me I can not understand why! he is being taken over guys like Nick Chubb, Jonathan Taylor, and even Ezekiel Elliot!! Listen, I think Barkley is a great guy. He does a lot for the community and he is a great leader. But let’s be realistic here boys and girls; isn’t picking him to be your RB1 an incredibly risky move? For the record, Grand Central Fantasy is DOWN on Barkley, but we are still very interested in how he progresses through camp. Barkley recently insinuated he may not be ready for Week 1, so we will see.

How will the Carolina offense look Sam Darnold?

Carolina is looking to take the next step with the former Jets LeGeNd Sam Darnold. I for one still have faith in Sam and didn’t want to see him go, but here we are. A fourth year quarterback with a lot to prove surrounded by elite weapons that are Fantasy Football Studs. CMC, DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson will all be part of several Fantasy Football championship season and I really need to see how things shake out in training camp and the preseason. Darnold was a turnover machine in New York so I am a little worried for the receivers, but I do think CMC will get back to his Fantasy dominance with the help of Darnold. Darnold has the potential to be the best quarterback CMC has ever played with. I know that seems crazy, but outside of a declining Cam Newton CMC has never really had a consistent quarterback getting him the ball. I think Sam can change that, but we have to see.

What the hell is going on in Las Vegas?

Entering the fourth year of his ten year contract (!) Jon Gruden and company have a lot to prove. Derek Carr still isn’t the guy they want, but he is still their starter heading into Week 1. Josh Jacobs stock is trending down and I really don’t know why. Henry Ruggs III has the makings of being a bust, and the defense is sketchy to say the least. But hey at least they can beat the Chiefs once a year! From a Fantasy Football perspective we are looking at Josh Jacobs closely this training camp. He is one of my breakout players as we find him plummeting down draft boards. It will be interesting to see exactly how he is used in preseason as the Raiders have now added perennial thorn in my side Kenyan Drake. Both have serious value going into 2021 but Jacobs is the one to watch.
