The New York Mets have narrowed down their general manager search to 3 candidates. The one that stands out to me and everyone else paying attention is Jacob Degrom’s boy, Noah Syndergaards boy, and Yoenis Cespedes boy; Brody Van Wagenen. Yeah, the superstar agent for CAA. The same agent of all those players I just mentioned. The same agent who drafted up that letter in the summer telling the Mets to trade Degrom!
This is a plot twist of I have ever seen one. In over two decades of watching baseball I never would have guessed that the Mets would be so progressive in their line of thinking. Van Wagenen is a relatively young man with years of experience as an agent and countless connections among players in the MLB.
The mets may be trying to take a page out of Magic Johnson and the LA Lakers book by hiring an agent as their general manager. Rob Palenka was hired by Magic Johnson last summer, and at the time he was a high power basketball agent. People were upset by this decision at the time, worrying about conflicts of interest. Say what you want; but he and Magic landed one of the best players of all time in Lebron James this past summer.
The New York Mets need to make this hire, and make it RIGHT NOW. This move would be thrusting the Mets into a new era. An era where that most of baseball is already in. And that is the new school era. Dont be afraid to do things differently and switch it up Wilpon! It can’t get worse than where you are now!
