Mets would benefit from DH? Cool Story Bro.

So word got out that Robert Manfred will most certain propose a rule change as early as this season for DH in the NL. From a Mets standpoint, most people feel it will benefit them. There seems to be several players but not enough of starting positions. I’m here to tell you SCREW the DH. The NL but more importantly the Mets don’t need that nonsense. Keep that noise in the AL.

So the Mets have a “surplus” in the infield. Frazier, Rosario, Lowrie, McNeil, Cano and possibly Alonso. To me having a “surplus” is a good problem, especially if you are the Mets. Year after year the Mets are riddled with injury. Do we really think having a DH position is going to stop a player from getting injured? I feel giving some of the veterans a full day off would be more beneficial in an extremely long MLB season. A full day off several times throughout the year will give a player less of a chance of injury then if they go through warmups, batting practice and running after at bats playing DH. The Mets need all the help they can get to avoid the inevitable.

If we look to the AL, more often then not the position is utilized for a player who just can’t get it done on the defensive side. Other reasons are for guys who are up there in age and lost a step. The name Cespedes fits that category but honestly who thinks that we even see him touch the field this year? Not me. How many teams use DH as a spot to rest guys from playing on the field? Not many. All these questions and answers add up to the fact that we do not need DH.

If you couldn’t tell already, I’m an NL guy. I enjoy the challenge of having a pitcher up. It brings a special strategic approach to the game. How are you going to pitch to the 8th batter and the leadoff batter with the pitcher in between? The sacrifice bunt will be a lost art of this beautiful game with no pitchers at bat. Let’s not forget the excitement when your star pitcher rips a line drive up the middle to drive in a run. Not many things will get fans up and cheering more then that. Taking away this beautiful part of the game is a wrong and horrible idea. It helps distinguish the 2 leagues. It’s not our fault that a pitcher or 2 from the AL can’t just jog to a base. Give me a break. Freak injuries happen. I will be crossing my fingers that this rule change gets shut down but at the same time I am not holding my breath
