The heart and soul of the Yankees left Saturday’s game with an oblique injury. Judge is scheduled for an MRI which could make or break the young season.
The Yankees team has been plagued with injuries. From aces to everyday position players to top tier relievers to quality bench guys it just seems to never end. From prospects to veterans the Yankees have managed to hoover around .500 but this blow can be detrimental.
The Yankees are a deep squad and can manage injuries in some areas. Betances shoulder injury hurts but NY possesses the best bullpen in baseball. It is never easy trying to win games without your ace but the Yankees starters are solid nonetheless. Several position players have gone down and we have seen the effect but for the most part they are not major injuries (Sanchez, Stanton, Hicks). You can afford injuries for some time. Due to the excessive amount of games in the MLB season it’s normal to see injuries but can the Yankees afford life without Judge.
Judge not only is one of the younger primary stars of the MLB but he’s also the unsung leader in pinstripes. He is more than long homers. He is a presence that is as important as any players presence to a team. His leadership on and off the field is vital for success. Life without Judge would put a dagger to fans hopes and dreams for 2019.
We will keep our ears and eyes open closely to the news. Our gut feeling is it’s nothing to serious but an IL trip will be needed. Fingers crossed Yankee fans.
