The Melvin Gordon Problem

Your boy Melvin Gordon aka San Diego’s bell cow has decided to hold out until he gets his bag. And you know what that means for fantasy owners right? MAJOR ANXIETY. Do we draft one of the best running backs in the league and hope the hold out ends? Or do we stay away?

The Good: Gordon is an absolute stud. Rushing for 3628 yards and 28 touch downs in his short career that has been plagued by injuries proves the big dog can eat. He has also been proven to be the focal point of the offense. Gordon gets every opportunity at the goal line and even though he is injury prone they aren’t shy about using him as much as any other star back in the league. A healthy Gordon is a top 5 back in the league, and those are hard to come by.

The Bad: I may have mentioned this already but Gordon is injury prone as fuuuuuccckkkkk. He doesn’t miss many games, but he is always banged up. You’ll be watching the 1pm deadline like a hawk every week because he’s a game time decision for the millionth time. And the worst part is, he gets hurt down the stretch. Right when you need him in the fantasy playoffs he is banged up or missing your crucial week 10 matchup to get into the playoffs. To be fair, he played all 16 in 2017, but history says we can’t count on that to be the norm for any running back with injury issues.

The Ugly: This contract issue does not sound promising boys and girls. Reports came out that the Chargers are willing to give Gordon a raise, but it’s not close to what he wants. Your boy wants Le’Veon Bell Money! Yikes guys. Big yikes here. That is not happening for Gordon. This could get ugly.

The Verdict: Stay Away!

Listen, I love Gordon, but if you have a pick within the first 12 picks, don’t take him. We saw what happened with Bell owners last year. They took him in the first round and held out hope that he would only miss a few games. An entire season later, their seasons were ruined. It’s not worth the risk.
