Pick Or Pass: Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry did something most fantasy football players never accomplish.

He let down his owners for about 90% of the season which led most of them to cut him. Just so he could turn it on the final month of the fantasy season and become a top 5 running back in the process!

I was one of those owners, unfortunately. I kept Henry with my 8th round pick and going into it I was looking forward to his breakout year. Sadly, I lost patience with him like most did and cut him around week 8. Being stuck behind Dion Lewis in the RB depth chart and not being able to get into a routine screwed The Heisman trophy winner from the jump. BUT he broke out in historic fashion vs the Jaguars in the first week of most fantasy playoffs and finished with almost 500 years and 6 touchdowns from week 14 to 16!!!

Pick Or Pass?

So will Henry build off that late year success and turn it into a solid year for the first time in his young career? Henry is the 15th RB and his ADP is somewhere in the late 3rd round. Which would be a significant investment for any fantasy team looking to Henry to be their guy. If you spend that 3rd or 4th pick on a RB you will be expecting him to at least be a RB2 for you. So should you do it?

Henry is always healthy. Missing one game in his 3 year career. Going into year 4 he is ready to be the bell cow for a young Tennessee offense. If there is any year to spend this type of pick on Henry it’s 2019. He finally showed the Titans and their fans what he is capable of. He won’t consistently break single game records, but I believed he will be a solid RB2 with low RB1 potential.

His lack of receiving ability is a negative for sure, but goal line touches and his health are something that can make up for that. Target Henry in the 4th round and don’t reach for him! He is a risky pick, but will pay off if he is surrounded by solid players on your team.

Verdict: Pick
