Myles “Carol” Gaskin

The Miami Dolphins were rumored to upgrade at the Running Back position early on in the NFL draft but failed to select one until the 244th pick. Going into 2021 season the Dolphins will carry Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and recently signed Malcolm Brown as primary options for RB. Do any of these men pose a threat to your fantasy lineups this season? The answer is no. None of these toys are shiny enough but one presents more value then you may think. That value comes from Myles Gaskin.

Gaskin impressed Miami in his first 2 games of the 2020 season, enough to hand him the starting job. He left fantasy managers feeling great the next 5 games finishing as a top 15 back. Unfortunately injuries/COVID plagued him from week 9 on and only saw the field 3 more games from that point.

While his fantasy numbers were appealing early on, they didn’t translate on the field quite as successfully. He averaged just 3.6 yards per carry in the first half of the season but he was constantly involved in the offense, whether it was through the passing game or racking up carries.

What intrigues me the most about Gaskin situation is his surroundings. The offensive line has upgraded and should come out stronger then the prior season but when talking about Miami, we keep touching on the acquisitions at wideout. Fuller and Waddle are brought in to push Tua to a higher level. Whether this happens remains to be seen. This effects the Miami offense greatly in the sense that the running game should become more of an afterthought to defenses.

Now Salvon Ahmed had some flashes last season and Malcolm Brown is a veteran who has filled the shoes of other backs when needed. This rushing attack will be far from a cowbell situation but will more of a RBBC. The man who should be at the top of the committee is Carol Gaskin but he certainly needs to earn it.

I have Gaskin pinned around 25-28 among Running Backs. His upside is RB2 but realistically he should be a depth chart guy who will sub in against great matchups/flex play.
